Teacher María Trastoi Rego gives us an insight into her many years of experience using MathCityMap in maths lessons at her school in Spain:

 

“IES Plurilingüe Castro da Uz, a MathCityMap Associated School, has been integrating this tool into its Mathematics teaching practice for several academic years. During this time, our students have participated as users of the platform, completing contextualized routes and tasks that enabled them to discover mathematics in their surroundings and apply curricular content to real-life situations.

During the current academic year, we took a further step in this journey. As part of the „Geometry in Space“ unit, the students in the 4th year of compulsory secondary education (15–16 years old) assumed an active role as content creators for the platform. Working in small groups, they identified elements of the school environment that could be explored mathematically, carried out measurements, designed problems related to both plane and solid geometry, and created complete MathCityMap tasks ready to be published on the platform.

As a result of this work, we created two routes on MathCityMap, which include the tasks designed by the students themselves. These routes are fully functional educational resources and demonstrate the students‘ ability to apply the knowledge they acquired to authentic problem-solving situations while also enriching the collection of resources available to the MathCityMap community.

This experience proved to be highly valuable from a pedagogical perspective. Moving from being users of the platform to becoming activity designers enabled students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts, strengthen their mathematical, digital, and scientific competences, improve their communication and teamwork skills, and increase their motivation by seeing that their work could be used by other learners.

Furthermore, this change in approach is fully aligned with the active learning methodologies promoted at our school. It supports project-based learning, encourages student autonomy, and strengthens the connection between mathematics and the real world.

Looking ahead to the next academic year, we plan to continue developing this initiative. While this first phase focused on designing tasks and routes within the school grounds, our next objective is to extend the project to the urban environment by creating new routes throughout different areas of our town. In this way, we aim to offer richer and more varied learning experiences that allow students to explore the mathematics found in architecture, urban planning, and other elements of public spaces.”

Z učenskimi računi MathCityMap lahko svojim učencem omogočite, da sami ustvarijo svoje dejavnosti na prostem. Poleg tradicionalnega načina reševanja »Mathtrail« to ponuja edinstveno priložnost, da na stvari pogledajo skozi matematično perspektivo. Korak 1 – Odkrijte pot na MathCityMap

Pred načrtovano uro o ustvarjanju nalog bi morali učence seznaniti s konceptom MathCityMap.

Naj se odpravijo na matematično pot in zapišejo svoje vtise o nalogah.

Korak 2 – Spreminjanje perspektiv in organizacijska vprašanja

Nato z njimi spremenite zorni kot: razpravljajte o ideji, da bi kot skupinski izdelek razreda oblikovali posamezne naloge in skupno matematično pot.

Natančneje opredelite, kakšni bodo cilji vaših učencev pri nalogah: naj bodo to na primer naloge za modeliranje? Je matematična pot namenjena določeni ciljni skupini, na primer mlajšim učencem? Ali pa naj bi jo pripravili za poseben dogodek, kot je na primer prihajajoči šolski festival? Koliko nalog naj bi pripravili?

Priporočljivo je, da ta vprašanja pojasnite vnaprej, da se dogovorite o vrsti nalog, temah in ciljni skupini. Učencem lahko ponudite tudi navodila za pripravo nalog.

Ustvarjanje nalog z uporabniškimi računi učencev

With MathCityMap student accounts, you can let your students create their own outdoor tasks. In addition to the classic math trail, this offers a unique opportunity to explore mathematical concepts. Here you’ll find step-by-step instructions describing how to find and create tasks on the portal.

Opomba: V okviru projekta MATRIX smo za vaše učence pripravili samostojni tečaj, ki jih vodi skozi nekatere od tukaj navedenih korakov. Vaši učenci bodo ta tečaj našli takoj, ko se bodo v portal prijavili s svojim učniškim računom. Vsebuje navodila za ustvarjanje nalog in uporabo spletnega portala, po potrebi pa ga lahko vnaprej dodelite kot domačo nalogo.

Korak 1 – Poiščite ideje za naloge

Ko boste uredili vse organizacijske podrobnosti, lahko razred razdelite v trojice in vsaki skupini izročite merilna orodja. Poleg tega jim razdelite dovolj izvodov delovnega lista za izvedbo naloge (glej stran z gradivom).

Odpeljite razred na prosto, na kraj, kjer bodo nastale naloge. Dajte učencem dovolj časa, da poiščejo ideje za naloge in jih zabeležijo v delovni list.

Pomagajte jim, če nimajo lastnih idej, in jim dajte povratne informacije o njihovih idejah.

Korak 2 – Ideje za opravila

Ko vsaka manjša skupina zbere ideje za naloge, se vrnete v učilnico.

Učenci najprej izpolnijo delovni list za oblikovanje nalog (glej stran z gradivom), tj. svoje ideje za naloge dopolnijo z namigi in vzorčnim rešitvami.

Korak 3 – Ustvarjanje nalog v portalu

Nato študentom predstavite uporabo spletnega portala, zlasti kako ustvariti nalogo prek svojih študentskih računov. To poteka popolnoma enako kot pri običajnih računih.

V naslednjem koraku vsakemu učencu podelite prijavne podatke za učni račun, ki ste ga predhodno ustvarili. Kako ustvariti te račune, si lahko preberete v navodilih »Ustvarjanje učnih skupin« in »Upravljanje učnih skupin«.

Naj vaši učenci zdaj ustvarijo naloge na spletnem portalu.

Korak 1 – Začnite medsebojni pregled

Ko bodo vaši udeleženci na spletnem portalu ustvarili svoje naloge, lahko začnete z medsebojnim pregledovanjem. To pomeni, da je treba spletni portal tehnično nastaviti tako, da bodo udeleženci lahko vanj vnašali komentarje.

Aby ste to urobili, kliknite na symbol úprav vedľa vašej študijnej skupiny a aktivujte recenziu od rovesníkov.

Čas začetka in konca lahko nastavite tudi v nastavitvah pregleda.

Korak 2 – Organizacija medsebojnega pregleda

Z učenci se dogovorite, katere manjše skupine bodo preizkušale katere naloge. Učenci bodo nato ponovno odšli na prosto s svojimi merilnimi pripomočki.

Poleg tega jim pri dajanju ustrezne povratne informacije pomaga delovni list za medsebojno ocenjevanje (glej stran z gradivom) v obliki kontrolnega seznama.

Korak 3 – Napišite komentarje in upoštevajte povratne informacije

Ko so naloge preverjene, udeleženci v spletni portal vnesejo svoje povratne informacije.

Prav tako lahko pregledujete komentarje svojih udeležencev in po potrebi posredujete.

Nato učencem dajte čas, da upoštevajo povratne informacije iz razreda in naloge popravijo.

Korak 4 – Ustvarite pot

Ko vsi udeleženci zaključijo ta postopek, lahko iz njihovih nalog sestavite pot.

To deluje prek običajnega polja za pot.

Naloge učencev so vedno prikazane kot rožnate oznake.

“The tasks were developed in cooperation with students of our school. They subsequently implemented and solved them together with younger classmates, which helped identify and eliminate shortcomings in the wording of individual assignments.

We consider mathematical walks to be an innovative teaching method that effectively connects theoretical knowledge with its practical application in a real-world environment while also supporting active student learning.”

“At our school, we have successfully developed and trialled various outdoor educational activities based on the MathCityMap platform, aimed at promoting active, hands-on and engaging mathematics learning through exploration of the local area and problem-solving in real-world contexts.

In particular, the following courses have been developed and already tested with students:
